Jim Gatto is a partner at Sheppard Mullin in the firm’s Washington, DC office. He is Team Leader of the firm’s Blockchain Technology and Digital Currency team, Social Media and Games team and Open Source team. He has 35 years of experience focused on all aspects of intellectual property, internet and technology law, including patent, trademark, copyright, trade secret and open source. Jim has a heavy focus on interactive entertainment (games, AR, VR, fantasy sports, esports) blockchain, cryptocurrency, crypto games and online gambling. Jim regularly advises clients on offensive and defensive IP strategies, licensing and technology transactions and agreements, and regulatory issues and technology litigation, especially those driven by new business models and/or disruptive technology.
Eric is a 30-year veteran of the game, consumer online, and wireless data industries, serving in capacities ranging from game designer to executive.
Since 2002, Eric is or has been a board member of, advisor or consultant to AOL, AT&T Wireless, Centerscore, Digital Chocolate, Electronic Arts, Exponential Entertainment, Gaia Online, HipLogic, In-Fusio, Juice Wireless, Kayak (dba Blaze), Lifetime, LimeLife, Meredith, Mforma (dba Hands-On Mobile), Moloon, Openwave, PaymentOne, PickTeams (fka GoCrossCampus), Reaxion, rmbrME, Thumbplay, Unplugged, Vindigo, Warner Music, YouPlus, and two US venture capital firms.
Eric was most recently the President and Co-Founder of Unplugged, for which he secured distribution with four of the five largest North American carriers. Previously, he served as President and Founder of Crossover Technologies, one of the first consumer online companies, for which he secured AOL, BMG, Discovery Channel, Intel, Microsoft, Prodigy (IBM/Sears/CBS joint venture), Random House, Sony, Time Warner, and Viacom as clients and distribution partners; and, prior to that, as President of West End Games, the adventure game company for which he published, among 40+ titles, Star Wars, Ghostbusters, Star Trek, and Junta. His award-winning games include Paranoia, Tales of the Arabian Nights, The Tom Peters Business School in a Box, and MadMaze, the first online game to draw one million players. He is a three-time winner of the Origins Award for Best Role-Playing Game and a two-time winner of the Game Designers Guild Select Award.
Eric is a regular speaker at the major North American games, wireless and online conferences, including CTIA, MECCA, Internet World, The Conference Board, DMW, GDC, GDC Mobile, MES, AGC, MGC, LA Games Conference, and E3, and has served as a programs advisor or advisory board member for the latter six conferences. He was previously a board member for the New York New Media Association and New York University’s Center for Advanced Digital Applications.
Michael leads the company’s gaming vertical, providing a wide variety of market research and analysis products to help clients gain a comprehensive understanding of consumer gaming habits and interest and make strategic decisions. Prior to joining Interpret, Cai served as Director of Digital Media and Gaming for Parks Associates. During his tenure with Parks Associates, Cai established and grew its gaming coverage practice and led a research team to provide syndicated and custom research for digital media, gaming and service provider industries.
Josh is a consultant in the gaming industry working with game developers, game publishers and service providers focused on online and mobile gaming to support key business areas including strategy, market intelligence, marketing, game publishing, business operations, product management and business development. Previously, he worked at 6waves, leading the US product management team for one of the largest publishers of games for Facebook, iOS & Android, where he managed & launched over 100+ apps including those from top developers like Kabam, Nexon & Atari, as well as games based on IP from Eminem, Disney, Dungeons & Dragons, Starz & BBC. Prior, he worked at Electronic Arts in EA’s Pogo.com division, supporting one of the largest casual games websites focusing on product management, customer insights, new platforms, market strategy & analytics.
Kent Wakeford is co-founder and Vice Chairman of Gen.G esports, a leading esports team ownership group. Gen.G is home to numerous highly acclaimed esports teams including ‘Seoul Dynasty’ in the Overwatch League, the 2017 League of Legends World Champion team, as well as teams playing PUBG, Call of Duty, Fortnite and Apex Legends. Prior, Kent was COO of Kabam, where he helped grow Kabam to a globally diverse company with over 1,000 employees in 7 countries. Kabam games were played by over 500 million people around the world. Kent currently serves on the Board of Directors of Skillz, the leading mobile esports platform, FanAI, a data analytics platform connecting brands with tradition and esports teams, and is co-founder of Forte Labs, a blockchain technology company.
David Bloom is a Los Angeles-based writer and consultant on communications and content strategy. He writes weekly columns on the collision of tech, media and entertainment for Tubefilter.com and for TVRev.com, hosts the Bloom in Tech podcast, and teaches a class on digital media at the University of Southern California. Bloom has been an award-winning journalist for numerous publications, including Variety, Deadline.com, Red Herring, and the Los Angeles Daily News, and held executive positions with MGM Inc., the USC Marshall School of Business, and the City of Los Angeles redevelopment agency. He is a graduate of the University of Missouri School of Journalism.
Javon Frazier is a digital strategist and serial techpreneur with experience in all areas of the media and entertainment industry, including film, television, music, video games, publishing, web and mobile media. Currently, he serves as Executive Vice President, Business Development and Strategy at Studio71, LP where he oversees strategic business development for digital celebrities. His core competence lies in driving transactional revenue with new product launches, especially mobile games, which remains a personal and professional passion project.
Javon built his repertoire at Marvel, where he spent close to a decade, starting in business development with the studio’s publishing and theatrical divisions. Here he helped launch Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk, before rapidly moving on to the Marvel’s television arm as its Marketing Director, overseeing popular animated television series including Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, Iron Man: Armored Adventures and Super Hero Squad. The game-changing moment came when he was appointed Vice President, Games Marketing at Marvel Entertainment, where he launched over 40 games on all platforms worldwide including, LEGO Marvel Super Heroes, and Disney Infinity 2.0 Marvel Super Heroes.
Post Marvel, Javon forayed into digital entertainment with Studio71 US. Among his most notable projects here is the Cyanide and Happiness Joking Hazard Kickstarter, which generated $3.25 Million and ranks as the #2 most funded card game in Kickstarter history. He also oversaw the launch of the Natural Born Pranksters film, which reached the #1 comedy spot on iTunes in the U.S. and the #2 movie overall on the US iTunes charts behind Star Wars: The Force Awakens. His recent conquest is a very successful subscription box service centered around Studio71 creators.
Javon is a native of Los Angeles and a graduate of Brentwood School. Following Brentwood, he went on to receive his BA from the University of California at Berkeley and his MBA from New York University’s Stern School of Business.
Andrew Stalbow is Co-Founder and CEO at Seriously, a company creating mobile games designed to be developed into entertainment properties. Seriously’s content development is based in Helsinki, Finland while the company’s business development and marketing functions are based in Venice, California. Seriously’s first property Best Fiends was released in October 2014 and since then, the game has been downloaded over 86 million times with up to 1.8 million daily active players.
Formerly Executive Vice President, Strategic Partnerships at Rovio Entertainment, Andrew oversaw the company’s commercial strategy and biggest partnership deals. Highlights at Rovio include the partnership with Lucasfilm for ‘Angry Birds Star Wars’ and building a video distribution channel within Rovio’s 1.7 billion game downloads which has generated up to 250 million monthly views.
Prior to Rovio, Stalbow ran 20th Century Fox’s mobile division where he built new distribution channels for the studio’s film and television properties worldwide. As President of Interactive Ventures & Games, reporting to Lionsgate Chief Executive Officer Jon Feltheimer, Peter Levin’s responsibilities include expanding Lionsgate’s content into video games and other interactive ventures, incubation of new properties, investment in existing games and digital media vehicles, extending Lionsgate’s portfolio of brands and franchises into the gaming and virtual reality space, and helping manage the Company’s OTT ventures.
Mr. Levin has shepherded the Company’s investments in Telltale Games, Next Games, Mobcrush and 5th Journey and engineered strategic partnerships with Oculus, WEVR, Starbreeze Studios, Kabam, HTC, Valve, Side-Kick VR, Kiwi and IGT. Mr. Levin also spearheaded the Company’s acquisition of iconic video game properties Borderlands and Candy Crush for film and television.
Mr. Levin previously served as CEO and Co-Founder of Nerdist Industries. Prior to that, he was an executive advisor to Japanese Yoshimoto Kogyo, MAG Interactive, comiXology and Rovio Entertainment. Mr. Levin has also been associated with some of the most valuable game franchises in the world, including Angry Birds.
Start-up founder, social media pioneer, music manager, and master negotiator, Josh Brooks has a proven track record in the media and tech space. Brooks currently oversees all marketing and brand strategy for Jam City. Prior to Jam City, he raised $1.6M in venture capital to launch On The Run Tech and partnered with Selena Gomez to launch the popular app, Postcard on the Run.
Earlier in his career, Brooks created the first integrated marketing team at MySpace, responsible for $22M in branded advertising revenue in his first year. He also produced the first and largest live streaming event for MySpace, in cooperation with the U.S. Dept. of Defense, which resulted in 3.5M live streams from Camp Behring, Kuwait (a.k.a. Operation MySpace). From 2001-2005, he managed the critically acclaimed and Grammy nominated band, Queens of the Stone Age. Prior to managing the band, he was a founding member of Fanscape.com, which was acquired by Omnicom in 2010.
Brooks was a Socal Tech Top 50 Winner in 2013 and received the Silicon Beach Wavemaker Award in 2011. He received a BFA in Media Arts from University of Arizona, and currently resides in Los Angeles with his family.
