Biography
Javier Ferreira is the co-CEO of Scopely, an interactive entertainment company and mobile games publisher. A longtime digital media and technology executive with 15+ years of experience in gaming, Javier joined Scopely in 2014 as COO to expand its business operations, strategy, slate and partnerships. In 2016, he also became President, overseeing all aspects of day-to-day operations, and joined the Scopely Board. In 2019, he became co-CEO with co-founder Walter Driver. Since Javier joined the business in 2014, Scopely has grown 14x in the last 16 quarters and has launched six consecutive highly-diverse, top-grossing franchises, including: the award-winning Star Trek™ Fleet Command, Looney Tunes™ World of Mayhem, WWE Champions 2019, The Walking Dead™: Road To Survival, YAHTZEE® With Buddies and Wheel of Fortune®: Free Play. Scopely’s diverse portfolio showcases its unique ability to utilize best-in-class data and analytics tools to build and operate long-term, rewarding game experiences as well as replicate success with each product launch. Javier’s leadership has helped Scopely achieve accolades such as recognition in Fast Company’s “World’s Most Innovative Companies” and Entrepreneur’s “30 Startups to Watch” as well as ranking #2 on Deloitte’s “Technology Fast 500” and #9 on Inc. magazine’s “Inc. 5000” as one of the fastest-growing companies in North America.
Prior to Scopely, Javier served as Senior Vice President of Games Publishing at Disney Interactive, where he oversaw a large slate of mobile, console and online digital properties—helping establish the brand as a world-class publisher with over a dozen #1 games, 500+ million downloads and $1 billion+ in revenue during his tenure. Prior to Disney, Javier served as Chief Executive Officer of TF Artes Gráficas, a graphic arts publisher in Spain. Earlier in his career, Javier served as Vice President of Sales & Marketing for Europe at JAMDAT Mobile, which was acquired by Electronic Arts during his tenure for $680 million. Javier helped build the JAMDAT business into a Top 3 Mobile Games Publisher in Europe. Following the company’s exit, Javier served as Vice President of Publishing at EA where he drove the brand’s global strategy and technology investments across the EMEA region, as well as expanded international distribution and closed a wide range of strategic partnerships with major IP holders. Javier began his career in gaming at Telefónica Mobile as Head of Product, Games.
Javier holds a B.S. in Economics from the University of Warwick and a M.S. in Social Anthropology from the University of Oxford.
